Bachelorarbeit aus dem Jahr 2011 im Fachbereich BWL - Investition und Finanzierung, Note: 1,7, Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (Lehrstuhl für Controlling ), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Private Equity (PE), privates Beteiligungskapital, hat als Investitionsalternative zu den klassischen Anlageklassen (Aktien, Renten, Immobilien) in Europa seit Beginn der 1990er Jahre stark an Bedeutung gewonnen. Nicht zuletzt die öffentlich geführten Debatten über „Heuschrecken' sind Ausdruck dieser Entwicklung. Aktuelle wissenschaftliche Studien belegen, entgegen den teilweise öffentlich dargestellten negativen Auswirkungen, dass PE-Investitionen größtenteils gesamtwirtschaftliche positive Effekte hervorrufen, wie bspw. bei der Beschäftigung. [....] Der Ausblick für die Anlageklasse PE bleibt optimistisch und es wird eine weitere Erholung der PE-Branche erwartet. Diese steigende Bedeutung von PE ist mit dem Glauben der Investoren verbunden, eine hohe Rendite erwirtschaften zu können. Zudem wird PE, aufgrund der ihr zugeschriebenen geringen Korrelation insbesondere zum Aktienmarkt, als Diversifikationsvehikel in der Asset Allocation verwendet.Im Gegensatz zu Public Equity, börsennotiertem Beteiligungskapital, gibt es für PE jedoch keine liquiden Sekundärmarkte (z. B. Wertpapierbörsen) und somit keine beobachtbaren Marktwerte. Aufgrund dessen sind klassische Performancemaße nur eingeschränkt anwendbar. Wissenschaftliche Studien kommen in ihrer Analyse zur Performance von PE zu unterschiedlichen Ergebnissen. So ermitteln bspw. Ljungqvist und Richardson (2003) eine bessere Performance von PE relativ zum S&P 500. Kaplan und Schoar (2005) hingegen weisen eine schlechtere Performance von PE gegenüber dem S&P 500 nach. Auch bezüglich des Diversifikationspotentials, wie auch der risikoadjustierten Performance, sind unterschiedliche Ergebnisse beobachtbar.
