Cynthia West says, 'Poems form a path, with places to rest from the grief that rides the shoulders with the claws of a hawk. It takes strong legs to carry the sorrow of all who ask. It takes a clear mind to bear the voices. It takes the balance of a tightrope walker not to trip on the pain. The flowers, upholding petals and seeds, understand the burden a yoke can be. Sensing their transience, they announce,’Poems build the road forward, providing hollows where gladness can grow.’' Known for her visionary paintings, Cynthia is also a poet, photographer, digital imager, potter and book artist. Her home with many gardens, where she has lived for forty years with her husband and family, is a healing center as well as her studio and gallery. Her works are collected worldwide. west is the author of four previous collections of poetry, 'For Beauty Way,' '1000 Stone Buddhas,' 'Rainbringer,' and 'The New Sun,' the last two from Sunstone Press. 3

    K D Halliwell
The ambiguously titled Love Bites is the debut offering from K D Halliwell, a Milton Keynes based author who describes the collection as a document of her twenties. Original and with a format that stands out from the ordinary, it is proving particularly well-received by those who “don’t normally like poetry”. Originally written by hand, the author has traversed a fine line betw...

  • Polishing the Silver
    Jennifer Chrystie
‘There’s a touch of both Dickinson and Larkin in Jennifer Chrystie’s mature exhumation of the tales and tropes of family. Figures who could so easily flit like phantoms in her well honed poetry are palpably enjoying an after-life in the poet’s ability to redeem through deep understanding. The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

  • One Kiss
    Edward V Bonner
The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....

  • A Clear Drop, Poems for Today
    Cynthia West
Cynthia West says, 'As a poet, I travel a different map, one with sand traps and tunnels that lead to clouds mirrored in mountain pools. Writing with pen and paper is my way of heeding the wordless ones who have much to teach us. When morning light sighs in the leaves, green veins gather water beyond ideas of line and form. My hand is a nameless bird, dropping feathers that poi...

  • The New Sun
    Cynthia West
Cynthia West says, 'Kneeling, I retrieve shattered shards, glue them together. If I can stick even one piece to another, I have a poem. It is bread. . . . To write poetry, I memorize suffering’s names, visit the wounds no stitches can hide, gather stories in my pain bag until it bursts. Love aches if it isn’t told. . . . My words are small, round circles, elm seeds, designed to...

'Rainbringer' is a road map for seekers, a trail marker for the emptied ones. Field notes, advice and anecdotes entertain along the way. The lilies I offer you have been gathered climbing the mountains, swimming the sea and bringing the rain.'Well known for ...
