Historia de los judíos de España (Cádiz, 1847) narra la historia de los judíos en España desde los tiempos de su establecimiento hasta principios del siglo XIX.La obra constituye un ejemplar esencial para la composición de una bibliografía sefardí. De hecho, ha sido incluida como tal por la Biblioteca del Instituto Cervantes porque tuvo gran influencia en el origen de la historiografía hispana y en la visión europea. Además, constituye una obra importante por su político posicionamiento histórico desde el punto de vista de la historiografía moderna ante temas como el conocido debate acerca de la convivencia de los judíos con los cristianos en la Península Ibérica, la importancia concedida a las conversiones forzosas o la ayuda que los judíos proporcionaron a los árabes en la conquista, leyenda desmentida por la historiografía moderna.
