They do notknow each other, but their stories are connected by their geographies, their emotions, and theuncertainties in their lives. Always the Wanderer occupies an ambiguous space that confronts readers withchallenging views of imperial politics, capitalism, morals, ethics, and inter-cultural exchange.James, Patrick, and Elizabeth are strangers to each other, and yet the reader can sense theircommonalities.
