Questo lavoro è il risultato di una ricerca condotta presso l’Università Federale della Frontiera Sud, situata nella regione meridionale del Brasile. L’obiettivo degli studi era quello di trovare risposte sul modello di istituzione di istruzione superiore, implementato dopo la lotta dei movimenti sociali locali, che dovrebbe consentire l’inclusione dei giovani provenienti dagli strati sociali meno favoriti. In quanto nuovo modello di istituto di istruzione superiore, ha una matrice curricolare diversa da quella delle altre università e si preoccupa di garantire che i suoi laureati siano inclusi, rimangano e completino i loro corsi. Alla luce delle analisi effettuate, l’UFFS può essere considerata un nuovo modello di università: 'un’università popolare'.
