Le livre vise à aborder la santé mentale des personnes atteintes du VIH et du sida et les troubles mentaux, car on estime que plus d’un quart des personnes qui suivent un traitement psychiatrique au Brésil ont contracté une maladie sexuellement transmissible. L’intérêt de traiter des infections sexuellement transmissibles chez les patients souffrant de troubles psychiatriques réside dans le fait que les études épidémiologiques montrent que la prévalence des troubles peut atteindre 30 % de celle de la population générale. Cette publication vise à combler une lacune dans la littérature destinée aux professionnels qui s’occupent de patients souffrant d’une comorbidité entre le VIH/sida et des troubles mentaux. Il permet de réfléchir à la pratique de la santé dans le contexte du VIH/sida et de la santé mentale, ainsi qu’aux défis de l’adhésion au traitement.
