El uso de la música, en todas sus manifestaciones, ejerce en el ámbito escolar efectos que favorecen los procesos de integración y desarrollo en los niños. Esta posibilidad que ofrece como lenguaje no verbal, la hace merecedora de ocupar un lugar en el campo de la educación colaborando en los procesos de transformación por los que atraviesa el niño en el contexto escolar. La Musicoterapia como disciplina encargada de utilizar la música y/o sus elementos musicales (sonido, ritmo, melodía y armonía) para facilitar y promover la comunicación, las relaciones y el aprendizaje, con el fin de lograr cambios y satisfacer las necesidades del sujeto, viene aportando desde mediados del siglo pasado y encaramada a la metodología proveniente del campo de la educación musical, el desarrollo de técnicas y teorías específicas que la hacen propicia para su inserción en el ámbito educativo. El desarrollo histórico de la Musicoterapia en la Argentina, nos muestra, que a partir del año 1967, se produce un viraje disciplinar de la Educación Musical a la Musicoterapia. El mismo está fundamentado en los Métodos de Educación Musical de concepción activa dado que toman en cuenta al sujeto del aprendizaje. Así históricamente, en el contexto internacional, se suceden propuestas metodológicas desde principios del S XX con Jaques Dalcroze y Edgar Willems, pasando a mediados del S XX por J. Ward, S. Suzuki, K. Orff y Z. Kodaly. Más adelante se suman los compositores George Self, Murray Schafer, J Paynter que ofrecen un plus a la enseñanza de la música que tiene que ver con el dinamismo, la creatividad, la participación activa, la puesta en práctica de todas las capacidades expresivo - musicales de los sujetos del aprendizaje: canto, movimiento corporal, producciones instrumentales, etc. 4
