A frutose e a estreptozotocina induziram diabetes em ratos, o que acabou por resultar em disfunção endotelial. A disfunção endotelial foi medida com o relaxamento induzido pela acetilcolina (dependente do endotélio) e o relaxamento induzido pelo nitroprussiato de sódio (independente do endotélio) na aorta torácica do rato. Para inverter a disfunção endotelial, a manutenção da pressão arterial é o fator mais importante e a fluvastatina foi a mais significativa nesse sentido. A fluvastatina mostrou um impacto significativo na disfunção endotelial. A Dapagliflozina, que controla a diabetes, também foi capaz de reduzir a disfunção endotelial. Mas a combinação de Fluvastatina com Dapagliflozina foi considerada mais eficaz no controlo da disfunção endotelial do que o medicamento individual.
