In recent decades, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been considered a vanguard material due to their promising properties, which appear to differ from those of their bulk counterpart. The main characteristic of AgNPs is the high surface area to volume ratio, allowing the nanostructure to be extensively exploited in several areas such as biotechnology, electronics, medicine, environmental remediation, biosensors, agriculture and the food industry. The extensive use of AgNPs is reflected in the quantity of worldwide suppliers, and global consumption of these nanoparticles in electrical, healthcare, food and textile products. Because new applications for AgNPs are discovered daily, continued growth can be expected in global nanoparticle manufacturing. Undoubtedly AgNPs are part of our daily life. They are incorporated into consumer products such as washing machines and clothes, and into medical products in the fight against bacterial resistance to antibiotics. AgNPs have also been incorporated in medical devices, such as biomaterials for wound healing and dentistry, and as disinfectants.
